Press Release: Scott W. Lang, Mayor New Bedford
New Bedford, Massachusetts – On Thursday, July 14th at 12:30pm, Mayor Lang, city officials, and the New Bedford Economic Development Council will welcome a new, cafe to the South End business district. A briefing speaking program and ribbon cutting ceremony is planned.
The Center Cafe, is located at 466 Brock Avenue and offers coffee, breakfast, lunch, ice cream, and more in a newly renovated storefront. The cafe is a contemporary yet inviting space featuring eco-driven design and renovated with the environment in mind. Owner Carol Fisher used recycled materials, made energy efficient selections, and employed local workers to redevelop the space.
The Center Cafe also offers a 400 square foot private meeting room which may be reserved by local organizations. We hope that visitors and residents of New Bedford’s South End neighborhood stop by the cafe enjoy breakfast or lunch, catch up with their friends and neighbors, or use the space for a business meeting, said Fisher.
In the fall of 2008, Fisher constructed Energy Star rated townhouses above the cafe. The New Bedford Economic Development Council helped Fisher to market the space and supported her redevelopment efforts. This cafe is a great example of a new neighborhood business for the South End that is sure to be a gathering spot for residents and visitors alike. Carol has shown that a well designed mixed-use, green and sustainable building can fit right into the neighborhood, said Matthew Morrissey, Executive Director of the New Bedford Economic Development Council.
